Schools set the record straight on 'attack' rumour

A VICIOUS rumour which spread round the village like wildfire resulted in schools having to make a special announcement to calm children and parents.

Panic was caused when rumours of a rape and a horrific hammer attack in Sanctuary Close, Harefield, became common knowledge.

Yet bizarrely, the incident which led to the alarming tale, was a drunken dispute between two girls, which resulted in one punching the other.

The victim is believed not to be pressing charges.

As the rumour mill spiralled out of control, on Thursday both Harefield Junior School in Park Lane, and Harefield Infant School, in High Street, Harefield, were forced to allay parents fears, in a joint statement from the police, setting the record straight.

We'd like to hear from you.
